James Woods has worked in theatre for approximately 25 years. He has experience in all areas of Theatre ranging from stage management through marketing and producing.
After leaving the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield in 1984 where he was the Marketing Director he formed his own Arts Marketing consultancy. Clients included, The Arts Council of England, New Vic Theatre, Northern Ballet Theatre, Nuffield Theatre, Southampton and various independent theatres.
In 1988 he formed Clarion Productions which became one of the foremost producing companies of family entertainment. Many shows included: Roald Dahl’s BFG and The Witches, Enid Blyton’s Noddy and the musical Sweet Lorraine. The company mounted 4 productions very successfully in the West End.
James Woods introduced the sale of the Enid Blyton Company to the Burford property group. The intellectual copyrights were transferred to Chorion and he stayed with the company for one year as a consultant.
Latterly he has set up numerous major UK touring shows which included co-producing The Pirates of Penzance with Mark Goucher, the Boy George musical, Taboo and the first ever touring production of the Vagina Monologues. He has negotiated the deals for many West End shows and all the deals involving Mark Goucher shows and co-productions on tour including: Fame, Saturday Night Fever, Footloose, Journey’s End, High Society, Anything Goes and many more.
