Dan Bates - Chief Executive, York Theatre Royal
Dan Bates joined York Theatre Royal as Chief Executive, in January 2005. Prior to York, Dan had a long career at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, where he joined the company as a Stage Manager in 1987 and gradually worked his way through different departments from Project Manager to General Manager through to his final role as Executive Director. Currently Dan is steering York Theatre Royal through some exciting development plans, including the potential expansion of the 250 year old grade 2* building, as well as refurbishing the public areas of the theatre, creating more space for audiences and young people. Outside of York Theatre Royal, Dan is a Trustee of The Theatre Management Association, and of Audiences Yorkshire. He is the Chair of PLAY (Performing and Live Arts York) and is a panel member for Service-mark (Customer Service strategy) for Yorkshire and the Humber. He is also a member of North Yorkshire Culture.
