Introduction
The Family Friendly Arts Campaign is being led by 6 performing and visual arts trade bodies: Association of British Orchestras (ABO), Dance UK, Independent Theatre Council (ITC), Society of London Theatres (SOLT), Theatrical Management Association (TMA) and Visual Arts and Galleries Association (VAGA). The consortium have has been awarded a grants by Arts Council England (ACE) to develop a campaign focussing on the development of family friendly arts engagement. The Campaign runs is funded until March 2015
What is the Campaign about?
The Family Friendly Arts Campaign will be a large scale, national collaborative programme led by the visual and performing arts sectors to increase levels of arts engagement by families and young people. It will do this through three main areas of work:
(i) Increasing the amount and range of high-quality content available
(ii) Increasing the quality of experience
(iii) Improving marketing
Who is the Campaign for?
This campaign is primarily aimed at increasing and broadening audiences and participants for the visual and performing arts sectors generally, but we will be focusing our work on those organisations who are members of the five partner organisations, as well as ACE’s National Portfolio Organisations (NPOs).
There will be opportunities for other organisations not part of one of the identified groups above to also access aspects of the Campaign and we are keen to work in partnership on initiatives with museums and libraries.
Consultation Process
We have been able to use 2012 as the time to consult with arts organisations and families. We have done this by:
• An online survey of arts organisations and families. We have had over 2500 responses and we have factored these responses into our draft campaign plan; • Regional Consultations with arts organisations – these have been run each of the ACE regions; • Focus Groups with families have been run in both Manchester and London To see the latest version of the Campaign Plan summary – click here
If you would like to comment on our plans and ideas, whether you are from an arts organisation or a family member (or both) please do email us with your thoughts to Alastair@solttma.co.uk The deadline for additional comments will be Friday 26th October 2012 at 5pm.
Next Steps
Once the plan has been finalised and agreed with ACE we will put further information on our website setting out the next steps and outlining how you can get involved.
