Theatre Awards UK Judging Process

Theatre Awards UK is the premier award ceremony celebrating theatre throughout the UK.

Judging process

Nominations are made and voted on by industry experts who have been invited to serve as panelists by the Chief Executive of the TMA. There are three panels: Theatre, Opera and Dance. The awards for Outstanding Achievement in Opera and Dance are judged by the Opera and Dance panels respectively. All other awards except The Stage Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre are judged by the Theatre panel.

The Stage Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Theatre is given at the discretion of the Managing Director and Editor of The Stage newspaper.

The meetings of the Panels are attended by the Chief Executive and Awards Manager of the TMA in a non-voting capacity.

Eligibility

These awards are open to TMA members working in both the commercial and subsidised sectors of the performing arts.  To be eligible for the production categories of Theatre Awards UK, a production has to be either produced by a TMA member or seen in a TMA member theatre or venue.   There are a few exceptions which are not eligible:

• Amateur productions
• Royal Shakespeare Company productions in London
• National Theatre productions in London
• Any production in the West End unless it has originated in a TMA theatre
• Festival productions
