The TMA Management Awards provide public recognition for the excellence of the “behind the scenes” work undertaken in a variety of management disciplines; they champion the skill and expertise of individuals and the contribution of teamwork. This year the TMA Management Awards will celebrate their 6th anniversary with the introduction of a new award: Employee of the Year. The TMA Management Awards are open to all TMA members working in the commercial and subsidised sectors of the performing arts. Details of the criteria of each TMA Management Award and the judging process are given below. Closing date for nominations: Thursday, 8th April, 2010 The Renee Stepham Award for the Presentation of Touring Theatre This award is named in honour of Renee Stepham who during her lifetime made an outstanding and unique contribution to regional theatre. The Renee Stepham Award celebrates the presentation and promotion of middle or large scale touring. The award recognises excellence in presenting touring productions and the contribution to the cultural economy of the UK made by presenting venues and the companies and producers with whom they work. Nominations for this award will demonstrate success in supporting touring artists, programming touring productions and audience development through collaboration or partnerships between presenting venues and touring companies and producers. Nominations can be made by a TMA member closely involved in middle and large scale touring to recognise the contribution to the UK touring network of another venue, touring company or producer Nominations for the award can be made by a theatre or arts venue, touring company or producer for their own programme of work. Nominations should be in recognition of a body of work; not for a single production. Nominees must be members of the TMA. TMA Award for Achievement in Marketing This award recognises the achievements of a TMA member company, theatre, arts centre or venue in developing and undertaking an original and successful marketing initiative, PR or marketing campaign. The award also seeks to promote the place of marketing in the overall business success of the performing arts and to spread best practice. TMA members may nominate themselves for this award. Nominations should be a written statement using the appropriate Award Nomination form that can be downloaded when you click here. Material such as print and press releases can be submitted to support the nomination. Nominations for the award will be assessed on the stated objectives of the initiative and its evaluated outcomes. The objectives of the initiative should be: specific measurable appropriate/achievable realistic time-based. The marketing initiative, PR or marketing campaign may cover a period of one to three years or a single production. The judging panel will consider the results and outcomes against stated targets and objectives and the contribution made to the overall business strategy of the organisation. TMA Award for Most Welcoming Theatre This award recognises the achievements of an individual theatre, arts centre or venue in providing a high quality of service to the public. The standard of customer service in the theatres and arts venues throughout the UK has improved greatly in recent years. Many venues have improved access and facilities for their customers; they have utilised the resources available within their buildings to increase the range of activities and services on offer; and have developed an ethos that places customer service at the heart of the organisation. The Award for Most Welcoming Theatre aims to recognise the achievements of a theatre or arts venue in providing an exceptional level of customer service which sets a standard for the industry regardless of scale or type of venue. Nominations for this award should include a description of the policy on access; details of customer service initiatives; and the strategic approach to the promotion of customer relations including staff training or professional development. Nominations will be judged on the significance and sustainability of the work undertaken by the company within its overall operation. TMA Eclipse Award This award is given to an individual or organisation that has contributed significantly to the promotion of cultural diversity in the UK performing arts. First presented in 2004, the TMA Eclipse Award was established to highlight and further the aims of the Arts Council England Eclipse Report which addressed the promotion of cultural diversity in the performing arts. Theatre companies may nominate themselves for the award. Nominations should be made using the appropriate Award Nomination form that can be downloaded when you click here. Nominations may also be made the Award Judging Panel. TMA Employee of the Year This Award has been established to recognise the special contribution made by an individual employed with a TMA member company. The Award seeks to highlight the particular achievements of an employee who has demonstrated the highest standards in their work and whose efforts have had significant beneficial impact in a particular area or department of their organisation’s operation in the previous 12 months. All employees, in whichever capacity, can be considered for this award: technical, front of house, marketing and sales, outreach and education, development and fundraising, production, venue and operations administration. Nominees for this award will not be employed in a management position with their organisation and, therefore, will not be eligible for the Manager of the Year award. Nominations should be made by the most senior manager of the company/organisation. Nominations should be made in writing using the appropriate Award Nomination form that can be downloaded when you click here. The written statement should include the reasons for the nomination, the quality of the individual’s work, his/her skills and expertise and, importantly, their achievements in the last twelve months and contribution to the organisation. TMA Manager of the Year Awarded to an individual who in the opinion of his/her company has made a significant contribution to its development and management in the previous 12 months. This award aims to recognise the quality of management within the performing arts and highlight the skill and expertise demonstrated by an individual during the course of the year. Individuals eligible for this award will be in a management position within a TMA member company, for example the Box Office Manager, Head of Education and Outreach, General Manager, Production Manager, Chief Executive or Executive Director. Nominations should be made by the most senior manager of the company/organisation or the chair of the Board of Directors. Nominations should be made in writing using the appropriate Award Nomination form that can be downloaded when you click here. The written statement should include the reasons for the nomination, the quality of the individual’s work, his/her managerial skills, achievements in the last twelve months and the on-going benefits to the organisation. The Judging System Nominations for the TMA Awards for Employee of the Year, Manager of the Year, Most Welcoming Theatre and The Renee Stepham Award are judged by the TMA Management Awards Panel which is chaired by the President and includes past Presidents of the TMA. The TMA Eclipse Award has its own judging panel which includes a representative of Arts Council England and invited Black and Asian artistic directors and artists. The Panel is chaired by a TMA Council Member. The TMA Award for Achievement in Marketing is judged by a panel comprising members of the TMA Council and the TMA Marketing and Enterprise Committee.
